\"Lyric<\/a>This week’s song is by one of my all-time favorite bands when it comes to a lyric with a nice turn-of-phrase. To this day, Chris Difford<\/a> is still among the best lyricists of the last fifty years. This one was the title track to 1993’s Some Fantastic Place<\/em><\/a> and it’s about an eternally optimistic friend of both Difford and Glenn Tilbrook<\/a> who died of leukemia. While it’s sad and frequently gets me choked up, having lost much family and friends to cancer over the years, it’s one of those songs that assists in the grieving process, and helps to heal the deep wound left after a devastating loss.<\/p>\n

She gave to me her tenderness<\/em>
\n Her friendship and her love<\/em>
\n I see her face from time to time<\/em>
\n There in the sky above<\/em><\/p>\n

We grew up learning as we went<\/em>
\n What a voyage our life could be<\/em>
\n It took us through a wilderness<\/em>
\n Into the calmest sea<\/em><\/p>\n

Her smile could lift me from the pain<\/em>
\n I often found within<\/em>
\n She said some things I won’t forget<\/em>
\n She made a few bells ring<\/em><\/p>\n

So simple her humility<\/em>
\n Her beauty found in grace<\/em>
\n Today she lives another life<\/em>
\n In some fantastic place<\/em><\/p>\n

She showed me how to raise a smile<\/em>
\n Out of her bed of gloom<\/em>
\n And in her garden sanctuary<\/em>
\n A life began to bloom.<\/em><\/p>\n

She visualized a world ahead<\/em>
\n And planned how it would be<\/em>
\n She left behind the strongest love<\/em>
\n That lives eternally<\/em><\/p>\n

I have the hope that when it’s time<\/em>
\n For me to come her way<\/em>
\n That she’ll be there to show me round<\/em>
\n Whenever comes that day<\/em><\/p>\n

Her love was life and happiness<\/em>
\n And in her steps I trace<\/em>
\n The way to live a better life<\/em>
\n In some fantastic place<\/em><\/p>\n
